“Again, // while(true);” Projection installation Surface: 5m2

AI technology combined with surrealist approaches.
‘Again’ is an investigation into our perception of repetition, creating landscaped environments through a combination of analogue and digital collage. York Art Gallery 2021/22
This rare opportunity to work with the Renaissance classic ‘Conard Wood’ by Gainsborough, stored for 100 years before this exhibition, enabled a merging of past and future through Gainsborough’s artistic theories and techniques to create new works.
The exploitation of AI allows a focus on process and intent, with no fixed boundaries, the unified compositions shift in emphasis and remain in transit, neither dependent on lasting objects, nor fixed locations.
Through individual curation and guidance, the AI creates a surreal version of paradise for the viewer.
‘Again’ was displayed as a projection at the York Art Gallery. The projection was a composited video of the generative process of the AI, displaying a subset of the 800 iterations created for each final image. In total, 124,800 individual images were combined in sequence to create over 4 hours of projection, showing the AI “as it works”.
